About me
My name is Iryna Kalashnyk, currently living in Bodrum, Turkey. I was born and raised in Ukraine.
Once I saw a bag, it was Prada in macrame technique, and it blew my mind. I thought to myself, 'I am going to learn how to make it,' found a tutorial, and made one for myself. I went to Pinterest and YouTube to learn the craft of macrame, and at first, it was a bit difficult, but once I learned the main basic knots, I was good to go.
Then other designs appeared in my head, and I was creating bag after bag with unique designs. I loved my work and devoted a lot of time to it, and after all, I established my own brand, Kalabutka Design.
I registered a page on Instagram, and my new life started with everyday stories, creating content reels, and posts. It was so new to me that in my work, I made everything by myself, from finding suppliers to selling my products.
Every day, I kept improving my skills in macrame, and my bags were sold to Japan, Australia, Turkey, Israel, Ukraine, and Greece. But as a creator, I was searching for my own way, style, and technique. I started making macrame home decor such as wall hangings, pillows, fiber art panels. I experimented with fabrics, canvas, paint, cords, colors, designs. I was so passionate about it, and I wanted to be someone who makes a difference in canvas art.
Finally, I ended up with the cords-on-canvas technique. I haven’t seen something like this before; the idea of creating cords on canvas just came to me once. I took some leftover cords and switched on my imagination. That was a success, my first million views on Instagram. I shot a lot of content and became very popular.
All my followers are people from all over the world, and I’m so proud of it. Then I started receiving a lot of requests from people to learn this technique and created a tutorial. So my product now is home decor in cords-on-canvas techniques and tutorials on how to make it. It is available on my website kalabutka.com
